William M. Matile

William M. Matile, age 89, a longtime resident of Joliet, passed away at home on February 25, 2026.
He was born September 3, 1936, in Joliet, Illinois, where he lived for most of his life before moving to Frankfort three years ago.

William served in the United States Navy for six years, including two years aboard aircraft carrier, the U.S.S Randolph. Following his military service, he worked as a machinist, where he was known for his skill and consistency throughout his career. He also had a longstanding interest in music, a cherished his years playing in the Jankowski Combo.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Julia Rose Matile (nee Moore), and their daughters Cynthia (Michael) Ceranski and Michele (Thomas) Vana. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lena Ceranski (Taylor Post), Kathryn Ceranski (Matthew Kasper), Jessica Laage, Elizabeth Casas (J.P. Lewis), Jamey Casas, Matthew (Morgan) Vana, and Amy (Mitchell) Cunningham, as well as great-grandchildren Madison, Emma, and Aubrey Laage; Mason, Maverick, Myles, and Maxton Vana (expected May 2026); Ava Lewis; Beau Cunningham; and Graham Post.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Hallie Casas and grandson Jay Vana.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 28, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Kurtz Memorial Chapel Ltd., 102 Francis Rd., New Lenox, Illinois. Inurnment will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Orland Park at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in William's name to either charity of your choice.
