WILLIAM D. BURN

Age, 74, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William & Ellen Burn (Salscheider) and grandson, William Garcia. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Laura Burn (Macias), children Fernando (Elizabeth) Garcia, Melissa (Jordan Kielian) Garcia, Alina (Patrick Geary), siblings, Suzanne Burn, Cynthia (Dwight) Hager, Barbara (John) Bennett, grandchildren, Gwendolyn Garcia, Callum Garcia, Shepard Garcia, Jolie Kielian, Charlotte Geary, Sage Geary, and Lyla Geary.

Bill was born on January 24th, 1949, in Fargo, North Dakota.

He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1967, participating as a three-sport athlete, and went on to earn a business degree from NDSU. He was a proud member of the football team, with an impressive record in winning all but one game over his college career and earning a divisional national championship title in 1968.

Bill began a successful career in the furniture industry after graduation, taking him to North Carolina and eventually, to the Chicago area where he met the love of his life, Laura. They were married for 28 wonderful years. Bill came into his stepchildren’s lives when they were just young kids and quickly formed an unbreakable bond. He was their number one fan, always there to offer love, support, guidance, and encouragement.

Aside from being a devoted husband and father, he took pride in his role as a grandfather. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their grandpa, never failing to crack a silly “grandpa” joke. He also formed a strong bond with his dog and best friend, Jax. He loved taking him on long walks and treated him as a valuable member of the family.

Bill was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Frankfort as well as the Kiwanis Club, where he volunteered for various organizations. He spent time compassionately caring for patients in hospice, offering them comfort and companionship. He selflessly dedicated his time and found joy and fulfillment in service of others.

He will always be remembered for his kindness, strong work ethic, willingness to help others, servant leadership in the community, and devotion to his family. His family was his greatest joy and passion in life. His favorite motto was “be kind,” which he exemplified through his deeds and the way he chose to live his life.
