Age 82, of Frankfort formerly longtime resident of Palos Hills, passed away Saturday March 7, 2026.
Wayne is survived by his loving family, children: Wayne (Colleen) Szara, Jr., Steven (Laura) Szara and Dana (Brett) Christeon, grandchildren: Lauren, Jason, Erin and Riley Szara, Zachary and Nathaniel Christeon, siblings: Larry Szara, Gerry (Lynn) Szara, and his faithful dog, Herschel.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Victoria Szara, his beloved wife, and high school sweetheart Martha Szara, and sister-in-law Ann Szara.
Wayne dedicated 35 years of his life as a Dental Technology Instructor at Triton College, shaping the futures of countless students with his knowledge and passion for the field. His commitment to education was fortified by a master’s degree in industrial education technology from Southern Illinois University, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning and teaching.
Beyond his professional achievements, Wayne's greatest pride was his family. He and his wife built a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on through those who knew and loved them.
Wayne's legacy is not just in his vocation but also in his military service. He proudly served as a 2nd class petty officer in the United States Navy, demonstrating his sense of duty and his commitment to his country. His service is a reflection of the values he instilled in his family and those around him.
In addition to his professional and military accomplishments, Wayne found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and spending time outdoors, especially with his family. These moments in nature brought him peace and happiness and are fondly remembered by all who shared them.
Among his proudest achievements, Wayne was honored to be a member of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memory Squad, where he paid tribute to veterans with dignity and respect. This role showcased not only his love for those who served but also his commitment to honoring the sacrifices made by others.
Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 5PM to 8PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday March 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 7659 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort, IL 60423. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to www.stjude.org would be greatly appreciated.
