Thomas L. Engelmann

Tom, 77, Marine Veteran, was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He had a way of talking to people that made you feel like you had known him forever. He loved being around people, and whether he was out in the Frankfort community, on the golf course, or simply running an errand, he was likely to come home having made a new friend.

Tom loved golf, cars, and a good conversation. Golf was a favorite pastime, especially when he could enjoy it with his brother, Lester. The two shared a love of cars and many rounds of golf together. Tom was especially proud of his black ’68 Chevelle and his 2005 red convertible Corvette—two cars that brought him a lot of joy and plenty of stories.

Tom worked for ComEd/Exelon and spent many years building friendships and memories along the way. Tom was also a true handyman. There wasn't much he wouldn't try to fix, build, or figure out. He was always willing to lend a hand and take on a project, and he took pride in being someone his family and friends could count on when something needed fixing.

His greatest joy, however, was his family. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen Engelmann, nee Yack; loving father to Carrie, Kevin and the late Todd Engelmann, a caring father-in-law to Maren, and a proud grandfather to Conrad and Kate; brother Lester (Gail) Engelmann, the late Lawrence Engelmann, Kenneth (Ethel) Engelmann; uncle of many nieces and nephews and he particularly shared a special bond with his brother-in-law Len, whom he loved as if he were another son.

Tom will be remembered for his big heart, his love of people, his sense of humor, and his ability to turn an ordinary conversation into a lasting friendship. He enjoyed the simple things in life—a round of golf, talking about cars, working on a project, spending time with family, and being surrounded by good people.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people who were lucky enough to cross paths with him.

May Tom be enjoying one last perfect round of golf, with his beloved cars waiting for him when he reaches the clubhouse.

Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 200 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville, IL 60446 on October 23, 2026 at 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Open House at Jameson’s Pub 9545 W. Saint Francis Rd., Frankfort, IL 60423 from 2:00PM – 6:00 PM.
