Ruth R. Johnson

Ruth R. Johnson (nee Richardson) 92, of Frankfort, was born in Thompsonville, IL to the late William and Hallie (nee Brown) Richardson and passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Rev. William G. Johnson; loving mother of the late Bradley (Carol) Johnson, and Jan (Michael) Rizzuto; cherished grandmother of Michael (Gayle) Rizzuto, Emily (Bill) Glegg, and the late Stephen Johnson; proud great grandmother of Charlie Clegg, Payton Rizzuto, Cecilia Clegg, Hutton Rizzuto, Oliver Clegg, and Walker Rizzuto; dear sister of the late Anna (Ed) McAlear, Rev. Phillip (the late Mary Ann) Richardson, and Phyllis (Fred) Uphoff; fond step daughter to the late Pauline (Johnson) Richardson; aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth retired from the United Methodist Church Northern Illinois Conference Headquarters in 1992 after 23 years employment.

She was a proud member of the United Methodist Church of New Lenox and was active in the choir, bible study, the womens’ circle, mission trips and more. Ruth’s commitment to her faith was stalwart. She shared her kindness, joy and generous spirit to her friends and strangers alike.

Ruth was the center and heart of her family. She was affectionally known as “Gam” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always ready to play, read a book or provide a treat, even into her 90’s.

Her light and love will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held at United Methodist Church of New Lenox 339 W. Haven Rd.  New Lenox, IL on Tuesday June 10th from 2-3pm with funeral service starting at 3pm. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery New Lenox.
