Robert W. Hunsley

A devoted and loving Husband and Father, Robert W. “Bob” Hunsley, age 88, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2026 surrounded by family. Robert was born the son of John R. “Boots” and Laura (nee Riney) Hunsley in Clinton, Illinois. He married Carol Hunsley (nee Kochis) in Taylorville, Illinois in 1965, enjoying 60 years of marriage.

Robert graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. Following high school Robert began his career with the Illinois Central Railroad until he was called to service into the United States Army. Bob often told stories about his time driving tanks and serving abroad in Germany before returning to the United States.

Once back home, Robert returned to work with the Illinois Central Railroad working his way up to Signal Supervisor of the Chicago territory. His career spanned 50 years of service before retirement.

Bob was a football player during high school which drove his passion for “Da Bears.” He was also known for his love of sport cars, tennis shoes, and watching the Indy 500 on Memorial Day weekend. Most important to Robert was family and friends. Affectionately known as “Uncle Bob” to his numerous nieces and nephews, he enjoyed watching the family growth and prosper. Later in his retirement, Bob would often be on the phone talking with family and high school friends, as a wellness check-in.

Robert is survived by his wife, Carol Hunsley. His daughter, Kimberly (Mark) Sefcik; Sister, Lou Ellen (late James) Mollet; Sisters-In-Law, Donna (late John) Hunsley; Teresa (late Lyle) Gesell; Marjorie (late Ken) Huson; Ruth (late Patrick) Sheahan; and Dorothy (late Dick) Turley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by his parents, John R. “Boots” and Laura Hunsley; Brothers, Roy (late Edith) Hunsley and John Hunsley; Sisters, Terry Yates and Veronica Hunsley, who died in infancy.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 7659 Sauk Trail, Frankfort, Illinois, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.

Inurnment will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 10:00 AM, St. Joseph Cemetery, 1500 N. Raynor Avenue, Joliet, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert’s name to either St. Anthony Food Pantry, Frankfort (stanthonyfrankfort.com) or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) would be appreciated.
