Robert C. Dartsch

January 22, 1941 — October 22, 2023

Robert Carl “Bob” Dartsch, soulmate of his cherished wife of 56 years, Carol Ann (nee Code),

passed peacefully October 22 to be with his Lord and his beloved Blessed Virgin Mary. Bob was

born January 22, 1941 to his late parents, Helen Veronica and Robert Alexander Dartsch in

Chicago, IL. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Diane Dartsch Prendergast (the

late Gerald Richard) and many nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by

his sister Jean Dartsch Nosal (the late Louis).

Bob taught physics at Gordon Tech HS from 1963-1967. A beloved Math, Physics, and

Computer teacher, “Big D”, as he was affectionately known by his students, taught at Evergreen

Park Community HS for 34 years, from 1967-2001. At EPCHS, Bob was Mathlete Coach, Math

Department Chairman, Computer Science Department Co-Chair, and Travelogue Director.

Highly respected by his peers, he was deeply involved with the EP Education Association, for

which he served variously as President and Treasurer. He staunchly defended and fought for the

integrity and rights of teachers, a profession of which he was immensely proud.

Bob was a much-honored teacher, having received the Distinguished Teacher Award from IIT

(1981), Congressional Teacher of the Year Award from Congressman William Lipinski (1992),

and Coca Cola Educator of The Month (November, 1995). Bob was honored to be inducted into

The Evergreen Park Community HS Hall Of Fame.

Bob was extremely active in the IEA, serving as Delegate to the IEA/NEA Teachers Conventions

for 22 years. In the IEA Retired Teachers Association, Bob was the Region 28 Liaison for

teachers.

Bob and Carol shared a passion for travel. Their travels took them to the far reaches of the

world including Russia and South America, on 19 ocean cruises, 5 river cruises, even including a

49-day trip around Cape Horn.

Bob was a cherished friend to many. His kind, caring nature impacted all who met him. His

myriad friends and family are richer for having known him.
