Richard P. (“Dick”) Sargent, age 94, of New Lenox, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at home, surrounded by loving family and his devoted wife of 71+ years, Marilyn. Dick’s family was his greatest source of pride and joy and he is survived by his four children: Scott (Jeanne) Sargent, Anne (John) Helander, Nancy (Mark) Sargent Gustin, and Brad (Michelle) Sargent, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and brother James Sargent. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Hazel (Collins) Sargent, brother Don (Marilyn) Sargent, and grandson Dan Calhoun.
A member of The Greatest Generation, Dick rose from humble beginnings in East St. Louis, IL. He entered the US Air Force at age eighteen during the Korean Conflict and then attended the University of Illinois on the GI Bill. After graduating with a degree in math, Dick started a lifelong career in computer technologies beginning with IBM. His successful career afforded him the opportunity to travel the globe, both personally and professionally, with his beloved Marilyn.
A true disciple of Christ his entire life, Dick leaned deeply into his faith as he survived a brain tumor just six months into his retirement. He took immense pride in his physical fitness and worked out daily leading up until his passing. His passions in life included the Bears, the Bible, Budweiser (Light in his later years), the Cubs, the Fighting Illini, reading (historical biographies his favorites) and anything/everything chocolate. Dick devoted the last years of his life to taking tender care of the love of his life, his “Precious” Marilyn.
