Raymond J. Steinbrenner Jr., age 70, of New Lenox, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2026, surrounded by love. He was born on December 27, 1955, at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Illinois, and was a lifelong resident of New Lenox.
Raymond was a proud graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School, Class of 1974. Shortly after graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from July 3, 1974, to December 21, 1977. He served both overseas and domestically and was discharged as a Lance Corporal. His dedication to service and country was a lifelong source of pride and later inspired his nephew to follow in service to the armed forces.
After completing his military service, Raymond returned home and opened Steinbrenner Appliance Repair, proudly serving the community he grew up in. He later continued his career working for Tamarack Heating and Cooling and Four Seasons. Raymond was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to helping others.
Raymond was married to the love of his life, Linda Steinbrenner, for 39 wonderful years, with their 40th wedding anniversary approaching in April. He was a devoted husband, a true family man, and a proud American.
He is survived by his beloved wife Linda Steinbrenner; his three stepsons William Smith (Jennifer), Jeffery Smith (Stephanie), and Daniel Smith (Melissa); and his cherished grandchildren Mia, Mallory, Makenna, Jack, Jacob, Avery, and Aidan. He is also survived by his sister Karynn Drew and her three children.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Raymond J. Steinbrenner Sr. and Dorothy Steinbrenner, and by his sister Susan Steinbrenner.
In his free time, Raymond found joy in gardening, tending to houseplants, pottery, cooking, and baking. He proudly carried on his father’s hobby of coin collecting and his mother’s love for baking and cooking, traditions that brought him great enjoyment throughout his life. Known for his easygoing nature, calm presence, and good sense of humor, Raymond brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. (Central Time) at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois.
Raymond will be remembered for his kindness, devotion to family, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his wife and family. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
