Paul McDaniel Shaffer, 83 of Frankfort, IL passed away June 4 at home surrounded by his family.
Paul was born on Jan 2, 1943 in Elkhart, IN to George and Dorothy Shaffer. He was shaped by his parents strong work ethic, dedication to education, and commitment to family. He grew up in Gary, IN and was surrounded by his siblings and grandmother, and showed an early interest in what became a life long career as an electrical engineer. Paul was a loyal person, dedicated to his family, community, and career.
Paul graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Electrical Engineering and earned his MBA from Northwestern University, and received his PE license. He made many contributions to his field over the decades, primarily to the steel industry. Paul retired at the age of 75.
He was married to his wife Susanne for 58 years, and was a resident in Frankfort for 50 years. He is survived by his wife Susanne, brother George Shaffer, sisters Laurie Placey (John, Russell), and Molly Detwiller (Dave). His children Kerry Arnold (Ed), Theodore Shaffer (Janel), Nathan Shaffer (Michelle), and Rebecca.
His grandchildren Joshua, Cristina, Jessica, Elias, Stevie, Alex, Nathan, Jonathan, Thomas, Evan, Elizabeth, Elijah, Emme, Ella, Skylar, Lincoln, Ava, and great granddaughter Amelia Shaffer.
Paul served his community by volunteering 28 years to the Frankfort Park District, and much of his time to the Lincoln Way Special Recreation Association.
In 2010 Frankfort Park District named Shaffer Park in honor of Paul's dedication to Frankfort. Shaffer Park is located at Tanglewood Lane and Colorado Ave.
Celebration of Life will be held at CD+ME on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 1-5pm. Please join us in remembering Paul.
