Nanci Anne Katula, 83, of Orland Park, IL, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024. She was born on August 31, 1940, in Chicago, IL, to Raea and Leo Korzenecki.
Nanci was a devoted wife, consummate mother, loving grandmother, and loyal friend who always sought to bring family and friends together. She had a passion for golf and spent many happy hours on the golf course perfecting her swing (in her 50’s she made 5 hole-in-ones over a 7-year period). In addition to golf, she was an accomplished yarn artist that excelled in crochet and knitting and opened a boutique craft store “Nanci’s Knits & Gifts” (winning awards for her afghans and sweaters). Nanci also cherished playing cards (bridge was her favorite) and her time spent with loved ones during Happy Hours, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories. Most of all, Nanci loved caring for others as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her sons: Michael (Connie), Garrett (Brenda), and Jeffrey (Kristen), and her grandchildren: Daniel, Timothy, and Kimberlee Avants; Elizabeth (Stephen) Margelos; Joseph, Rebecca, Zachary, Khloe, Caden, and Kyle Katula. Nanci was preceded in death by her husband, Louis John; her daughters: Melissa (the late John) Avants and Patricia; her sisters: Lani, Sandy, and Diane; and her brother, Leo.
Nanci Anne Katula will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, devotion, and passion for the color pink will forever be remembered. May she rest in peace.
Services will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423, on February 27th at 3 PM with a Chapel Service at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
