Mary Jane Stipanovich (nee Davey)
78, of New Lenox, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 13, 2021 surrounded by her family. Mary Jane was born in Alton, IL to the late Joseph and Elisabeth (nee Ryan) Davey. Beloved wife of Nicholas “Nick” Stipanovich; loving mother of Nick (Becky) Stipanovich; caring stepmother of Catherine (Richard) Schmidig, and Jaqui (Larry) Katz; cherished grandmother of Libby and Vinny Stipanovich, Kattie Schmidig, and Casey (Daniel) Cardoza; great-grandmother of Paige Cardoza; dear sister of Betty (Jack) Glynn, Pat (Marti) Davey, Sr. Theresa Davey, O.S.U., Tom (Andrea) Davey, and Terry (Karen) Davey. Mary Jane was a graduate of Marquette High School, Alton, IL, College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL. She spent several years in the convent with the Sisters of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. She taught at St. Francis Academy in Joliet, Bishop Blanchette Grade School in Joliet, and completed her career teaching French and Spanish at Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210. Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox, IL. She was Nick’s co-pilot when he was flying his plane and his first mate when sailing their boat. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers memorials in Mary Jane’s name to Oasis Hospice, Mokena, IL or a hospice of your choice would be appreciated. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 4pm – 7pm. Funeral services Friday, February 19, 2021 with prayers at the funeral home at 10:30am to St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
