Born on August 3, 1934 and passed on September 30, 2023. Mark was proceeded in death by his parents, Charlotte R. (nee Smith) and Clyde M. Batson and his sister, Diane Joy Batson. Mark graduated from Beloit College in Wisconsin with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics. Mark was a Veteran of the US Army having done a tour of duty in Germany. After discharge he traveled by train each day to his job at Harris Bank in Chicago where he worked in the stock transfer department. Mark was a patriot, he was a man of faith, a lover of history, especially local history. Mark served on the Will County Historic Preservation Board and was President of the New Lenox Area Historical Society for many years. He was a philanthropist donating to preserve and restore many local buildings including Schmuhl School, Haven Francis House, and his family church at the corner of Haven and Church street which will become the offices and meeting place for the New Lenox Area Historical Society. Mark's generosity and giving touched many other charities including many in his home town of New Lenox. He funded the restoration of Grace Episcopal Church, made generous donations to his beloved United Methodist Church and Beloit College for endowments. Mark also donated generously to the mission to build homes for the handicapped veterans.
Marks wish was to live in his "Mansion Under the Trees" all his life. He was four years old when his parents purchased the home on Elm Street and he happily lived there until his last day when he was reunited with his parents and his sister to his "Mansion Above the Trees" with the Lord.
His memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in New Lenox on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. With a visitation at 1:30pm until the time of the funeral service at 3pm.
Memorials in Mark's name can be made to the New Lenox Area Historical Society for the restoration of the old Methodist Church Mark loved and which he grew up in before the church moved to the campgrounds.
