Marie T McCurdy

It is with profound sadness and endless love that I share the passing of my mother, Marie Theresa McCurdy, on May 24th, 2026, at the age of 73.

Marie is survived by her loving family, devoted son, Josh (Lori) McCurdy, loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Addisyn McCurdy, Haley McCurdy and Caden McCurdy who brought her endless joy; she cherished every moment spent with them. Dear brother, Vincent Carlson.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah (Walter) Carlson and Jack Norton and brother Donald Carlson.

My mom was born on July 26, 1952, and grew up on the family farm in Bloomington-Normal, where she learned the values of hard work, compassion, and caring for others — values she carried with her throughout her entire life. She devoted her life to helping people as a social worker, always putting others before herself and offering kindness, understanding, and support to anyone who needed it.

She was one of the most selfless people I have ever known. My mom always thought of others before herself and constantly put the needs of family, friends, and even strangers ahead of her own. She had a quiet, thoughtful way of making people feel cared for and important. Whether it was a phone call, words of encouragement, or simply being there when someone needed her, she gave so much of herself to others without ever asking for anything in return. Her family and friends were always at the center of her heart, and she never stopped thinking about the people she loved.

She lived life fully and fearlessly. She loved to travel, experience new places, listen to live music, and make memories with the people she loved. She had a warm spirit that drew people in, and she made friends wherever she went. Her kindness, generosity, and beautiful heart touched countless lives.

To me, she was more than a mother — she was my safe place, my biggest supporter, and one of the kindest souls I have ever known. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on through all of us who were lucky enough to know her.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing her life was filled with purpose, love, laughter, and deep connection. She will be missed more than words can express and remembered every day with love.

Forever loved, forever missed.

The McCurdy family will receive friends for a Memorial Service at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Tuesday, June 2nd 2026 at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Marie would like all donations made out to her former Search and Rescue organization, McClean County EMA Association, 104 W. Front St. Room B, Bloomington, IL 61701.
