Margaret A. Mueller

March 2, 1924 — June 19, 2022

Margaret Ann Chesnut Mueller passed away on June 19, 2022. She was born at home on March 2, 1924 in Geneva, NB to Edgar and Florence (Brower) Chesnut. The small family moved around a lot for her father, a farmer, to find work during the depression era. She graduated from Dundee high school in 1941. Her first job was in Chicago and she also lived there until she moved in with her parents and siblings in Mokena.

She met Hans Mueller in 1942 and they were married on September 7, 1946. They lived in Mokena all their married life.

Peg was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; son, Terry; sister, Donna Kreis. She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Marc) Schonwise; sister, Beverly Kirk; brother, Jack Chesnut; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Mueller. She cherished her grandchildren, Michelle, Holly, Rich, and Elizabeth and 11 great-grandchildren. She also will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews and dear friend, Lola Parker.

Peg worked at various jobs throughout the years. She showed the model homes of Arbury Hills, worked at a five and dime store in Orland Park and was the district secretary to 4 superintendents of the Mokena School district for 21 years. She and Hans were active members of St. John’s UCC in Mokena. She taught Sunday School, belonged to the Women’s Fellowship and in retirement years quilted with several St. John’s ladies in Peg’s basement making a substantial financial contribution to the church. Peg was an excellent seamstress making many of her daughter’s clothes, doll clothes, and Cabbage Patch doll clothes for her granddaughters. She also enjoyed counted cross-stitch projects and antiquing.

Peg and Hans enjoyed traveling and took many family vacation trips around the US. They made trips to Germany to visit Hans’s relatives, went on a Windjammer cruise and many other places in their retirement years.

Peg was the family historian and created geneology books for the Chesnut and Mueller/Muehler families which she was always updating with marriages, births and deaths. She also faithfully sent birthday cards to Chesnut and Mueller/Muehler family members and to many friends. (You’re welcome USPS!)

Many thanks to the staff of Marley Oaks Assisted Living for their love and care for Peg and her family.
