Lois V. Grayston

July 11, 1922 — June 30, 2025

Chicago

Lois V. Grayston, a beloved Chicago public school teacher and an inspiring presence in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, just shy of her 103rd birthday. Born on July 11, 1922, in Chicago, IL, Lois dedicated her life to education, instilling knowledge and compassion in countless students over the decades. Her dedication was matched only by her thirst for learning, she graduated from Northwestern University and even at the remarkable age of 102, she was a student at St. Xavier University, embodying a lifelong commitment to self-improvement and intellectual curiosity.

Warm-hearted and kind, Lois was a beacon of positivity and encouragement. She shared her passions with others, whether on the golf course, where she honed her skills as a golfer, or through her involvement in the Ridge Country Club's women's group, where she formed lasting friendships. Lois loved to travel and explored many destinations, reveling in the beauty and diversity of the world around her.

Her community efforts were equally impressive as she was a proud member of both the Beverly Historical Society and Trinity Methodist Church in Beverly, IL, where she contributed her time and energy toward fostering a sense of togetherness and understanding among those around her.

Lois leaves behind a large, loving family who will deeply miss her indomitable spirit. She is survived by her cherished nephews Michael A. Redman (Maureen), William P. Redman, and Richard D. Redman (Emily), as well as her treasured niece Linda L. Redman-Jeray (Dennis). Her legacy continues with her great nephews Michael Redman (Alexandra), Paul Redman, and Alexander Redman, Dean Redman, Mitch Redman, and with surviving great nieces Jamie Redman-O'Gean (Anthony), Katie Jeray-Boing (Benjamin), Julia Jeray-Millsap (Cody), and Catherine Redman-Weder (Michael), in addition to many great great nieces and nephews who will carry her kindness forward.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harold Grayston and Elise Schaulman, and her dear niece Denise Redman, both of whom she held close in heart and memory.

Though she has departed from this earth, Lois Grayston's influence will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were lucky enough to know her. The world shines a little less brightly without her, but her warmth and graciousness will undoubtedly continue to inspire generations.
