Leah J. Garrabrant

October 21, 1955 — March 25, 2022

Leah Jean Garrabrant
Age 66, of Homer Glen, IL passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, March 25, 2022. Leah was born in Tampa, FL to Carol (nee Burch) and the late John Garrabrant. Loving mother of John Doolin; dear sister of Kevin (Laura) Garrabrant; Charlotte (Robert Wohlrab) Garrabrant, and Carolyn (Levon White) Garrabrant; beloved aunt of Makayla Garrabrant; dear friends Penny Lou, Scott, the Doolin family; and numerous cousins from the Garrabrant, Morris and Burch families.
Leah (aka D’OH) grew up spending much of her childhood in the woods. As a teenager, she became an accomplished seamstress, artist, ballet dancer, and toe dancer. Her biggest joy was her son, JP. The time they spent together being silly as “Vikings” showed us their unique humor. The cartoon’s she drew expressed her humor of the trials and tribulations of living in an old farmhouse. We always thought of her as “Betsy Pioneer”. She was not afraid to tackle fixing anything. She applied her intelligence to everything and was the most mechanically inclined person that we will ever know.
Leah applied her true grit when becoming a Local 150 Union heavy equipment operator. She mastered the craft of road construction running a roller and conquering the adversity as a woman in the profession. She was truly one of the best in her craft.
In retirement Leah spent much of her time reading and cooking. Her talent for cooking gave her, and her family great joy. She loved meat the most, but everything she made was delicious.
Leah was especially fond of the birds and feral cats around the house. Come rain or shine, the birds and feral cats feasted.
We take comfort in knowing that Leah is now at peace surrounded by light. We know that she is now enjoying time with Dad, Grandma, Aunt Mary, and Dorothy, as well as many others.
The family will be celebrating her life privately per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Will County Humane Society are appreciated.
