Laurene “Laurie” E. Smith
Age 70, a resident of Frankfort formerly of New Lenox, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Loving mother of Kimberlee (Ken) Grawe, Kristi (Bill) Walker and Karen (Josh) Ditzler; beloved daughter of the late John F. and late Patricia (Campbell) Curtis, Jr.; fond granddaughter of the late Pearl Violet Whalman; dearest sister of John Curtis, late Mark (Ruth) Curtis and Patty Skvorc; cherished Grandma (Gram) of Monica, Penni (Doug), Nichole (Jon), Stefannie, Sophia, Michael, Destiny, Mariah, Alyssa and Ava; proud great grandmother (Gigi) of Kyle, Dominic, Colton, McKenna, Wesley, Nicole and Katelyn. She shared a special bond with her Aunt Pat and cousins Jim, Michael, Cathy and Debbie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. Laurie was a trailblazer in her dedication to her community in civil service. She was the first female New Lenox Village Trustee, Chairman of the Will County Republican Party, Food Service Director for Will County Jail, Executive Assistant to the Will County Executive, Will County Board Member, Will County Commissioner, Will County Sheriff Public Relations, Legislative Aid for State Representatives, and New Lenox Planning and Zoning Board Member. A memorial visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox IL 60451 on Monday, August 23, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a memorial service at 7:00 PM.
