Kenneth E. Bartels, age 76, a resident of Frankfort and formerly of Chicago Heights and Monee, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, with his family by his side. Ken was the loving husband of Karen Bartels (Arcaris), father of Douglas (Theresa) Bartels, and grandfather of Allison and Connor. Ken’s siblings included brothers James Bartels and Randall (Susan) Bartels and he was the uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mildred (Meyer) Bartels, infant son Neil Bartels, and sister Marilyn (Elias) Johnson. Kenneth was a construction manager for Panduit Corporation for over 40 years where he supervised construction of major industrial facilities here in the Chicagoland area and in Europe and Mexico. Ken served his country for seven years in the Illinois National Guard as an infantryman having earned the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Matteson and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights. Ken’s lifetime passion was aviation and flying. He was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 across the Midwest in his spare time. A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort IL 60423 on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church 6201 Vollmer Ave. Matteson, IL 60443 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a funeral service in the church at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow to St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Matteson. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Matteson would be appreciated.
