Karen S. Walters Brown, born on March 31, 1948, to the late John A. and Faye L. (nee Wolfe) Walters, in the quaint town of East Liverpool, Ohio, gently slipped away from this world on September 1, 2025.
She leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories woven through the hearts of her family and friends. Beloved wife of Leo Brown; loving mother of Amy (Billy Urso) Brown Arnold, Kristine (Edward) Wilmes, Leah (Kenneth) Brown Cipra, Diane Gray, and Matthew (Lydia) Brown; cherished grandmother of Justin (Erika) Brown, Grace Arnold, Trevor (Amber) Samuelson, Brett (Ashley) Cipra, Cole Cipra, Scott Gray, and Lucas Brown; proud great grandmother of 7; dear sister of the late Daniel (late Barb) Walters, John (Kathy) Walters, Andrew (Donna) Walters, Patrick (Alice) Walters, the late Judith Walters, Kathleen Tonarelli, Melanie (Major) Jones, and Melissa (Michael) Rodriguez; her dearest friend Cheryl Krieger and her family; loved aunt, cousin, and friend.
Renowned among her loved ones for her ability to transform any gathering into a memorable feast, Karen hosted all the family holidays with heartfelt devotion. Her home was a sanctuary where laughter echoed, and fond memories blossomed. Through her generous spirit, she nurtured connections, reminding each person in her life of the importance of family and togetherness. A gentle soul, Karen embodied the essence of giving, often placing the needs of others before her own. Her serene presence and thoughtful approach to life were treasures that calmed those fortunate enough to know her. Quiet yet impactful, every small act of kindness she offered spoke volumes about her character—one defined by selflessness and love.
As we gather to remember Karen, we celebrate not only the individual she was but also the profound legacy of love and connection she has gifted us. Her family-oriented nature, coupled with her supportive demeanor, leaves behind an indelible mark that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to call her sister, mother, and friend. Though she has departed from our sight, her spirit lingers in the warmth of holiday gatherings and in the threads of family stories, forever brightening our lives.
The family would like to say a special, heartfelt THANK YOU to the next-door neighbor, Brad Zlogar, who called Karen his “project manager.” Like a good neighbor, Brad was always there. To The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital, the Doctors, Nurses, and Entire Staff for the wonderful care Karen received. To Lightways Hospice, Joliet for the compassionate care they provided Karen and our family.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 2 pm – 6 pm, with Words of Remembrance at 5:00 pm. Interment will be private.
