Julianne McCally Cotton, 93, longtime resident of Chicago Heights, passed away peacefully May 11, 2022. She is survived by her daughters: Melissa (Paul) Velandra of MI, Beth (late Malcom Peters) Cotton of LaGrange Park, Deborah (Kerry) Ingram of Chicago Heights, Sandy (Larry) Pyzik, St. John, IN, Diane (Tim) Novotny of South Holland; grandchildren: Kara (Nathan) Destro, Gregory (Madeleine Goetz) Ingram, Isaac and Sarianne Pyzik, Karli Buder, Kevin (Nicole) Novotny, Julia (Juan) Gutierrez, Gina (Joshua Walters) Novotny. Great-grandchildren: Bennett Destro, Kapri and McKayla Buder, Rylynn and Jaxon Ross, Vince and Ryan Gutierrez. Preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth “John” Cotton and her brother Maurice (late Sandra) McCally. Julie was born in Goshen, IN to Dewitt and Julia McCally and graduated Goshen HS in 1946. A proud Michigan State graduate, she received her BS and Masters in Education. Julie spent her career teaching and retired in 1993 from Bloom and Bloom Trail High Schools where she lead the Home Economics and Related Occupations program. Julie and Ellsworth met in college and were married in 1952 until he passed suddenly in 1984. Julie was a 55 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights, served as a deacon, elder, and was an active member of Presbyterian Women. She also volunteered for PADS. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of several Bridge clubs in the area. A visitation will be held on Sat., May 21 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Thomas St. Chicago Heights, IL 60411. A Committal Service will be held at the Violett Cemetery in Goshen, IN on Mon., May, 23rd, at 12:00 p.m. EST. Memorials may be directed to Jones Center of Chicago Heights or to PADS.
