John W. Teerling

John W. Teerling, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Lightways Hospice House in Joliet.

John is survived by his beloved wife Lois (nee Wuerffel) Teerling; daughters Linda Lee Teerling and Leesa Sue Walsh; and grandchildren, Austin Walsh, Marissa Walsh, Evan Walsh, and Cassidy Beckwith.

He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Hester Teerling; brothers William Teerling, and Samuel Teerling; and his sister Marion Teerling.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served two tours in Vietnam on the aircraft carrier Tigonderoga, as an attack carrier pilot. Upon his return home John became a commercial airline pilot working for 31 years for American Airlines. He was also the owner of Teerling Nursery in Homer Glen, IL. In his spare time, he was a part of several organizations including APA, Grey Eagles, and Gulf Harbour Golf Club. He also gave generously of his time to the Disabled Patriots of Illinois.

Services for John will begin on Monday, February 19, 2024 with a visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Franics Road from 4pm-7pm. Services will continue the following day, Tuesday, February 20, 2024 with a visitation being held at Shepherd of the Hill Church, 925 E. 9^th Street in Lockport from 9:30am until the time of the funeral service at 10:30am. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shepherd of the Hill Memorial Fund or the Wounded Warrior Project in John’s name would be appreciated.
