JEAN R. FINLEY
(ROWLEY)
Jean R. Finley passed away peacefully September 9, 2012. Jean was born in Homer Township on August 28, 1918. Educated in the local schools, she graduated from Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College. She also attended the University of Chicago. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Green Garden Township. She continued teaching in Lockport Central Grade School and substitute taught at Kelvin Grove School. In 1943 she married Harold Finley. Jean served as president of United Church Women of Illinois and was moderator of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Lockport. Jean was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ for 53 years and also a member of Rosemary's circle of the Kings Daughters.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Willard A. and Margaret Rowley, step-mother, Elda E. Rowley, sister, Phyllis, brothers, Owen and Willard G. Rowley. She is survived by a son, Robert (Barbara) of Lockport, three grandchildren, Robert Jr., of Independence, KY, Jennifer (Ryan) Dusek of Aurora, and Amy Finley of London, England, two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Emma Dusek. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 South Hamilton Street, Lockport, IL 60441, on Friday, September 14th, 2012 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, September 15th, 2012 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 700 E. 9th, Street, Lockport, IL 60441 from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM. Interment, Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joliet Area Community Hospice, First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Jean & Harold Finley Scholarship Fund at Joliet Junior College would be appreciated.
