Jean O’Neill (Carey), age 93 a resident of Marco Island, FL and Long Beach, IN, formerly longtime of Flossmoor IL, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 25, 1929 to the late Robert and Ann (Lyons) Carey. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Clement O'Neill, they were married for 48 years they raised four daughters Erin (Robert) Hearne, Jeannie (Stephen) Roman, Lisa (Dave) Drummond and Kathy (Pat) Ford, until Clem passed away May, 2005. She was also blessed to have a companion Ed McGrath until his death July, 2019. Jean grew up on the southside of Chicago with 3 brothers the late Thomas (Susan) Carey, late Robert (Peggy) Carey and Tony (Joan) Carey and 2 sisters the late Judy (Mike) Curtin and Helen “Honey” (Jim) Ehret. She was a teacher for Heather Hill School, Flossmoor school district. A devout catholic and former member of Infant Jesus of Prague Church in Flossmoor. Upon her retirement Jean loved spending time in the warm weather of Marco Island, FL in the winter and Long Beach, IN in the summer, she loved golf, swimming, and belonged to her garden club. She was an avid reader and loved her books. Her family owns and operates Hawthorne Racecourse for over a century. Jean was a cherished grandmother of Shannon (Jason) Kimsey, Robert Hearne, Molly Epich, Patrick Hearne, Casey Dicks, Neil Dicks, Bridgette (Isaac) Evans, Matthew Drummond, Liam Drummond, Morgan Ford and Mark Ford. She was a proud Grandma Great to 14. A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort IL 60423 on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, meeting at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1005 Moore Road, Michigan City, IN 46360 on Thursday, November 3, 2022 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow to Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, IN.
