James Louis Lis, age 77, formerly of Chicago, and Tinley Park passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Lightways Hospice House in Joliet.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Leona (nee Norbot) Lis; children, James (late Maryanne) Lis, Ann (Ruben) Irigoyen, and Jason (Janet) Lis, Sr.; grandchildren, Anthony, Danny, Sam, Olivia, Jason, Jr., and Jake; brother Thomas (Laurie) Lis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony C. and Ann M. (nee Galazin) Lis; and brothers, Richard (the late Marilyn) Lis, and Lawrence (Barbara) Lis; and his brothers-in-law, James Norbot, John (Susan) Norbot, and Raymond (Jeralyn) Norbot.
James was a retired Chicago Police Officer and Will County Court Officer. He was the past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Illinois State Lodge. He was also a past Grand Knight of the K of C Fort Dearborn Council. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Visitation for James will be on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road in New Lenox from 3pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave in New Lenox on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 10am. James will be laid to rest at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Lightways Hospice House would be appreciated.
