James (Jim) E. Ferrell, 71 of Channahon, IL, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Sharon (nee Smetana) Ferrell, daughters Lynn (Don) Leintz, Kristine Ferrell, and Kathryn (Joshua) Tyler & grandsons Justin Alexander, Nicholas Knutson, James and Jesse Tyler, one brother and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ferrell and Alberta (nee Pauline) Miller, his father-in-law, Robert W. Smetana, his mother-in-law, Patricia A. Smetana, brothers-in-law, Robert W. Smetana and David Friant, and infant grandson, Joseph R. Tyler. Jim worked at the Lyondell Petrochemical Plant (formerly Equistar) in Morris, IL for 35 years as a Preventative Maintenance Technician.

He was a dedicated family man that enjoyed friends, repairing cars, and his motorcycle. He enjoyed travel, archaeology, history and Discovery Channel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim to the Good Shepherd Center for Exceptional Children, 17314 Kedzie Ave., Hazel Crest, IL 60429 - www.gscenter.org - would be appreciated. Family and friends will be received Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2 to 5 p. m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451. Inurnment will be private.
