James E. Barr
Age 87, of Frankfort, IL. passed away Thursday July 31, 2025, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
James is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Kathleen Barr; children, Jayme (Randy) Spitzer, Lisa (Gerard) Huguelet, JoAnn (David) Conover, Jeremy Leonard, his sister Anita Wies, and many grand and great- grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Marie Barr, son John Barr, daughter-in-law Veneta Leonard, siblings Raymond Barr, and John Barr.
A man with strong convictions and a clear sense of direction, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life: a good round of golf, an ongoing project in his garage, the challenge of a good puzzle, and the study to all but guarantee a winning ticket at the horse track. His love of the outdoors and intellectual spirit were matched only by his deep devotion to his family, an attentive husband, sincere father, and beloved grandfather.
Above all, he adored his wife, Kathy, who was his greatest companion and the love of his life. Their marriage was a true partnership- full of laughter, resilience, and unwavering support. He could not wait to get in the car with her to explore the country from coast to coast or visit family and friends. Some of his favorite spots were Amish Country in Ohio, the Gulf Coast of Florida, the national parks out West, or simply a trip to Pilcher Park with a Whopper Junior in one hand and his wife's in the other.
Jim’s 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren will remember him as a grandpa that included them in his adventures and hobbies. From raking and burning leaves in the fall, collecting sticks and chopping wood, sharing stories around his fire, yearly football pools, and endless rounds of cards, he shared his interests and passions in this world and encouraged his grandchildren to discover their own.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, laughter, and learning. He will be remembered for his hands that built and fixed, his pursuit of truth and willingness to challenge, his strong will that guided, and his unwavering belief that the best luck in life is found in one’s loved ones.
From Jim himself, always take the scenic route and bring a salty snack.
