Irene Nellie Hogan

It is with great sadness that we share that our mom, Irene Nellie Hogan (Busch) passed away on Wednesday May 14, 2025, at the age of 99. She was born on April 27,1926 to Nellie and Louis Busch in Chicago. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. Her smile lit up the room.

She married Leo Hogan on August 14, 1948. He sadly preceded her in death in 2017. They were the love of each other’s lives. They began life together in the Burnside neighborhood of Chicago, then moving their growing family to Riverdale, Il. They spent many happy retirement years together in Frankfort, Il and then Irene spent her last 3 years with many new friends in Palos Heights Senior Living. Her life certainly was faith centered. She was an active volunteer, a Eucharistic Minister, choir member, and a long-time parishioner of St. Mary’s in Riverdale. In later years she continued her worship at St. Anthony’s in Frankfort.

Above all, Mom’s family always came first. She raised 6 sons. She was preceded in death by 2 of her sons Leo (Jill), and Bill (Barb). She is survived by sons Bob, Joe (Barb), Mike (Gretchen), and Matt (Kathy), daughters-in-law Jill and Barb, and Jill’s husband Bob.

Irene’s 29 grandchildren were a great joy in her life. They are Matt (Tricia), Kelly, Mike (Andrea), Tom (Bernadette), Dave (Elisha), Maureen (Joe), Daniel (Meagan), Collin, Marian, Elise, Laurel, Kaitlyn, Frank, and Mitch. Her Great and Great-Great Grandchildren include DJ, Abe (Katelyn), Ellie, Olivia, Anna, Sam, Jourdon, Ben, Lily, Erica, Abby, Tobi, Leo, Ollie, and Abraham. She was an amazing Grandmother.

A silent thought, a secret tear, a favorite memory, and her German potato salad, will keep her in our hearts forever.

Irene’s family will receive friends and family at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, Il 60423 on Tuesday May 20, 2025, from 3-8PM. Funeral Services on Wednesday May 21, 2025, at St. Anthony Church in Frankfort at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, Il.
