Gunārs R. Inka

April 2, 1984 — September 14, 2025

Frankfort, IL

Gunārs Raimonds Inka, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 14, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on April 2, 1984, in Barrington, Illinois, Gunars lived a vibrant life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

Spending time with family and friends was Gunars's greatest joy. Known as "the host with the most," he loved gathering loved ones around the pool, where laughter echoed and memories were made, often accompanied by the backdrop of his favorite music. His proudest accomplishment was the loving family he built with his wife, Amy Inka, and their two sons, Lukas (13) and Davis (11). Each moment they spent together was a cherished memory that will resonate in their hearts forever.

Gunars honored his Latvian heritage by sharing songs, stories, and cultural traditions, enriching not only his life but the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. The Latvian Center Garezers in Michigan was a special place for him, where everybody knew his name and will remember him either playing his guitar, singing, or catching turtles, frogs, and fish.

Purdue wasn’t just where Gunars got his education, but also where he started his life with his love Amy. Gunars will forever be cheering on his Purdue Boilermakers from the best seats in the house at Mackey Arena.

Known as the best neighbor and a friendly presence in the community, it was his warmth and approachability that truly defined him. He was a stranger to nobody, and he had a special knack for turning acquaintances into lifelong friends.

Gunars is survived by his loving wife Amy, devoted sons Lukas and Davis, proud parents Aivars and Ligita, and adoring sisters Erika Inka and Larisa (Jonathan) Skillman. Uncle Gu doted over his nieces and nephews Colin, Arija, Jackson, Mia, Max, Emmie, Beckett, and Daxton—a bond that brought immense joy to his life. He was a proud Gunčfather (godfather) to Mija. Gunars’s beloved dogs, Mackey and Amelia, also stand as gentle reminders of his nurturing spirit. Dear brother-in-law of Andrea (Jim), Lori (Matt), and Brad. Cherished son-in-law of Nancy (Matt), and Michael (Lisa).

Gunars has been reunited in heaven with family members and friends who have passed before him, as well as his treasured dog, Marlo, as they share in eternal peace.

In honor of Gunars’s rich life and lasting impact on those around him, a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 65 Old Frankfort Way Frankfort, IL. This will be followed by a Funeral Service on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Parkview Christian Church in New Lenox, IL, starting at 11:00 AM.

Though he may no longer walk among us, Gunars's spirit will forever shine in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life beautifully lived and a love that will never fade. Even in the face of tragedy, we find hope in the many gifts Gunars was able to give through organ donation.

In honor of Gunars, the family is requesting guests wear Black and Gold in honor of Purdue University, Latvian items, or anything that reminds you of Gunars.
