Gregory “Greg” Maruszak, first and only love of his wife Margaret "Peggy" (nee Meehan), was born in October of 1947 to Stanley and Rose. He grew up in Chicago, spending summers in Antioch, Illinois, along with his sister, Roberta, and brother, Daniel (Judy).
He was the father to Ron (Joann) and Wendy (Kevin) Beeson, and the proud grandfather of Greg, Emily, James, Evelyn and George. He was brother-in-law to Maureen (David) Codrea. Preceded in death by in-laws Richard Meehan, Pat Scown and Robert Meehan. Greg was blessed to have many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as dear friends, Pete and Marianne Gerali, Al and Joanne Roman, Joe Pedota, Nancy Krol and Jolayne Biscoe.
Greg graduated from Lewis College in Romeoville, Illinois, and began his accounting career at Ernst & Ernst from 1970-1982. He then began his 23 year run at Andrew Corporation serving as Vice President of Finance, CFO and Chief Compliance Officer.
It was through his work at Andrew Corporation that Greg became a world traveler. He spent time across Europe – particularly in Russia and the U.K., Australia, China and South America. Greg was proud to have seen five out of seven continents.
Later, Greg began a second career at Binny’s Corporate Office – what was supposed to be only temporary turned into 13 years with the company.
Greg was devoted to his family and loved his friends – with whom he shared his joy of traveling, fishing, hunting, music, hockey, reading, pool parties and, of course, cruising.
Greg discovered his love for cruise ships after Peggy’s parents took the entire family on a trip. He sailed 60+ cruises with Peggy, his children, grandchildren and friends.
Greg was deeply committed to giving back time to the institutions that had shaped and supported him. Lewis University recruited Greg for the Board of Trustees. During his 12-years, he funded the “Gladys Meehan Endowed Scholarship” for teachers at Lewis. Greg always supported the Christian Brothers. While at Andrew Corporation, he facilitated the “Andrew Foundation” to support the campus radio station, WLRA.
Further, he helped support the Blackfoot Indian School in Montana.
In the last week of his life, Greg was surrounded by family and friends while under the excellent care of Lightways Hospice facility in Joliet, Illinois.
