Age 37, of Palos Hills passed away suddenly Sunday February 15, 2026, at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Gerhardt was taken too suddenly; in a way no one should go. Dying tragically, in the prime of his life. But he grew up so loved; he had two adoring parents and was the youngest of 6 siblings. He was cuddled and spoiled so much as the baby of the family. Throughout his childhood, he traveled, often unhappily, around the country with his parents, he played soccer and basketball and got up to so much ruckus with his sister and brothers. He idolized his big brothers; he wanted to be just like them when he grew up. Not to mention, he was the world's best video game player. He could kick anyone's butt in Mario or Super Smash.
Though he was shy kid, he grew to be a strong man. He grew up to love motorcycles, the gym, and helping others. He treasured his dog, Milo. He achieved his associate's degree and became a stationary engineer. He was always brilliant with a strong mechanical mind, even if he didn't let it show in his report cards. He was the best uncle in the whole wide world, loving all his nieces and nephews, spoiling them with gifts and outings. He was always there when any cousin or aunt/uncle called (or anyone called truly), day or night. He would work on their HVAC, electricity, or anything else.
Music was the center of his life. Nirvana and Pearl Jam were part of his soul. He was connected to the songs and lyrics; he even learned how to use the guitar to play them. Through the echoes of the house, there would always be an echo of a song, such as his favorite….
Release – by Pearl Jam
I see the world
Feel the chill
Which way to go?
Windowsill
I see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain
Oh, dear dad
Can you see me now?
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me
Oh, dear dad
Can you see me now?
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark
For you to speak to me
I'll open up
Release me
Release me
Release me
Release me, oh
