Gerald H. Strass Jr. 76, a devoted family man, skilled electrician, and veteran, passed away peacefully at The Cottages of New Lenox on February 5, 2026. Born on August 8, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Gerald lived a life marked by dedication, and spirit that touched all who knew him.
Gerald’s early years were shaped by a strong sense of duty and perseverance. He graduated in Addison, Illinois, and was later drafted into the United States Army, where he served honorably in Korea. Following his military service, Gerald embarked on a lifelong career as an electrician, dedicating 40 years to his trade as a valued member of the Local 134. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and his expertise earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Above all, Gerald found his greatest joy and pride in caring for his family. Those closest to him remember him for qualities that defined both his personal and professional life. He cherished spending time with his children, especially enjoying special projects and hands-on moments with his son, Gerry. These memories stand as a testament to the deep bond he nurtured with his loved ones throughout his life.
Gerald is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Shannon (Alphonse) Poellmann and Jessie (Javier) Cordova; his sons, Gerry (Heather) Strass III and Ronny Strass; numerous grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Claude Strass, his father Gerald Strass Sr., and his mother Bertha (nee Reichl) Strass.
A memorial gathering and funeral service will be held on April 19, 2026, at Kurtz Memorial Chapel Ltd, located at 102 Francis Rd, New Lenox, Illinois 60451. The memorial gathering will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. These services offer a moment for family, friends, and all who knew Gerald to come together in remembrance and honor his enduring legacy.
Gerald H. Strass Jr.’s life was defined by a steadfast devotion to his family and profession, a humble yet impactful service to his country, and a gentle kindness that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
