George L. Rumbaugh, a dedicated community member and beloved figure, passed away on March 30, 2026. Born on March 21, 1954, to Robert and Margaret (nee Dillon) Rumbaugh, George's life was marked by service, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to those around him.

For over four decades, George devoted his professional life to Jewel - Osco, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting imprint. His commitment to his work was matched only by his love for his family, which was the cornerstone of his life. Those who were fortunate enough to know George witnessed a man who found profound joy and purpose in his relationships with loved ones.

Beyond his professional achievements, George was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in New Lenox, where he contributed his time and spirit to enrich the lives of fellow congregants. His volunteer work extended to Together We Cope in Tinley Park, reflecting a compassionate heart dedicated to helping others in times of need.

In his retirement years, George found joy and purpose as a bus driver, a role that allowed him to continue serving his community in a meaningful way. This chapter of his life brought him great satisfaction as he connected with people daily and contributed to the smooth running of his community’s transportation.

A lifelong resident of the Chicagoland area, George loved Chicago and all it offered, especially his native neighborhood of Bridgeport. He was a great story teller and jokester and when the occasion called for it, he loved to toast in celebration with a Bourbon Manhattan. Most importantly though, he will be remembered for his deep love and commitment to his wife and family.

George is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Catherine (nee Leahy) Rumbaugh, children: Jill (Tony) Zugaj, Kevin (Melissa) Rumbaugh, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Rumbaugh, Michael (Lisa) Rumbaugh, John (Annie) Rumbaugh, Elizabeth (David) Hurley, grandchildren: Amelia, Beatrice, Catherine and Theodore Zugaj, Madeline, Quinn and Lilianna Rumbaugh, Charles and Grace Rumbaugh, and Joy Rumbaugh, siblings: Ellen (Andrew) Zemaitis, late Robert (Carol) Rumbaugh, numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces nephews and friends.
