George F Griffiths Iii

April 15, 1942 — December 20, 2023

George Frederick Griffiths III, 81, went to be with his heavenly Father on December 20, 2023. He was born in Bronxville, New York to Anita and George Frederick Griffiths, Jr. on April 15, 1942. He was a founder, director and business owner, recently celebrating more than 50 years in business. He was the author of Significant Grandfathers and publisher of the Second Edition of Archer’s Arrows.

George was a man of faith and family and was a friend to all. He called himself an “ambassador of Christ”. He would always demonstrate this by handing out cards to his website http://nokingbutjesus.com/, filled with his stories and testimonies, to everyone he would meet. No one was a stranger to George. Baptized Catholic, respecting all Christian faiths, he enjoyed participating in various weekly bible studies and attending Promise Keepers, and sharing the Gospel with those around him. He was most happy bringing Holy Communion to those sick in the hospital and those who were homebound. He was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, 1st through 4th degrees, and a dedicated supporter of Pro-Life. He was proud to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era in Illesheim, Germany.

George was proud of his family and is survived by his wife Lorraine (Pryes) of 58 years; two brothers, Bill Griffiths (Norma) of Hopewell Junction, New York and Donald Griffiths (Suzanne Ryan) of Charleston, South Carolina. He was pre-deceased by his brother Michael Griffiths. He is also survived by his three adult children: George Frederick Griffiths IV (Denise), Jennifer Griffiths-Bennett (Michael), and Gina Griffiths-Coonrod (David). He always supported and attended his children’s activities, particularly music and scouting, serving as Webelos Leader, Scoutmaster, and Merit Badge Counselor.

He was always proud of his seven grandchildren: Matthew Griffiths (Tasha), Christopher Griffiths, Kristian Bennett (Mady), Brandon Coonrod, Derrick Coonrod, Lyndsey Coonrod, and Cameron Bennett. He was also blessed to see two great-grandsons: Matthew Griffiths, Jr. (“MJ”) and Mack Bennett, who was born on his 81st birthday. He is pre-deceased by three of his grandchildren: Marie, Maggie, and Nicholas Bennett, with whom he has now been united. He was also a favorite and loving uncle and cousin to many.

The celebration of life will be Thursday, December 28th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, December 29th from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in Frankfort, Illinois. There will be a processional to St. Mary’s church at 9:30 a.m. on the 29th, followed by Mass, and Internment immediately following at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thomas More Society at 309 W Washington St. Chicago, IL 60606.
