Frederick Joseph Rohder

Age 80, a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born in Joliet to the late Marita (nee Scheffler) Rohder. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Marolt) Rohder; loving father of Patrick (fiancée Katy Cross) Rohder, Karen Rohder, Laurie (Rob) Bauer, Colleen (Marc) Senffner, Peggy (Mike) Roesel, Jennifer (Brad) Brumund; Papa Fred to Jordan (Dennis Hieden) Rohder, Joshua (Lauren) Rohder, Jacob (Gracie) Rohder, Alexis (fiancé Danny Zurawski) Bauer, Madalyn Bauer, Noah Senffner, Mary Kate Senffner, Molly Senffner, the late Grace Irene Senffner, the late Mary Grace Senffner, Owen Roesel, Graham Roesel, Ethan Brumund, Johanna Brumund, and Mason Benson; dear brother of the late Richard (Paula) Rohder; brother-in-law of Nancy Callans and Dan Marolt; uncle, cousin and friend of many.  Fred was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and then as a firefighter with the City of Joliet for 30 years retiring in 2001. After his retirement he was employed by Joliet Grade District 86 for 9 years. Fred coached his children in basketball at St. John Grade School, baseball at St. Joseph Park, and JSA softball, Joliet, IL. He loved watching the grandchildren in all their sporting events. Fred was a diehard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football. Fred enjoyed taking care of and riding his horses and he loved his boxer dogs. He was very proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He always looked forward to family get togethers, especially the annual summer family vacation in Door County, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Joliet, IL where he served as an usher for many years. Fred will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, IL for their wonderful and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers memorials in Fred's name to Cathedral of St. Raymond, Joliet Catholic Academy, or Providence Catholic High School would be appreciated.  The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 4 pm – 8 pm. Everyone will meet at The Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus on Thursday, June 20, 2024, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Joliet, IL will be private.
