Everett L. Wren, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Frankfort on March 26, 2026.
Everett was born and raised on a farm in Morris, Illinois. He told many stories about those early years: siblings, cousins, animals, hay baling, helping neighbors, finding ways to earn money, and participating in 4-H. He came from an upbringing of hard work, and those values stayed with him throughout his life.
He later went to school in Chicago and earned an associate’s degree. After a few years working several different jobs, he eventually became a welder at Lockport Steel Fabricators, where he worked for over 4 decades. He put in long hours, including working many weekends and holidays, because providing for his family mattered deeply to him.
In 1971, he married Patricia, the love of his life. They were married for more than 53 years, until her passing in 2025.
Everett loved to be useful, and gave generously of his time and effort to others. He served at church for years as an usher, mowing the lawn, and carrying in the food Pat made for potlucks. He showed his love in steady, practical ways.
To know Everett was to know that he loved Jesus, loved his family, was fiercely loyal, and had a wicked dry sense of humor. He did not have an easy life, but he was a survivor who overcame many medical and personal challenges. He worked hard to never be a burden to anyone around him and to give all he could.
He is home now in heaven with Pat, likely asking her if she can make a strawberry rhubarb pie.
Everett is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Michael) and Cindy (Tom); and by his grandchildren, Chase and Tegan. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents William and Mary, and his siblings.
A public visitation for both Pat and Everett will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in New Lenox on Friday April 17, 2026 from 6:00 pm until the time of service at 7:00 pm.
