Elenore Kavois

June 24, 1928 — April 7, 2026

It is with deep love and gratitude that we remember Elenore Kavois, who passed away on April 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of loving family, thoughtfulness and kindness that touched countless lives. She was ninety-seven years old.

Elenore was born in Chicago, IL, on June 24, 1928, to the late Mr. Rudolph (Rudy) Linich and Mrs. Anne Yellenz Linich. She was preceded in death by her adored brothers, Godfrey “Babe” Linich (d. 1940) and Raymond Linich (d. 1944). She was preceded in death by two husbands whom she loved dearly: Frank Kavois (deceased in 1968) and Alex Kavois (deceased in 2002), and her daughter, Carol Shuhert, who died in 2023.

The most important things in Elenore’s life were spending time with her family, enjoying penny slots at the casino, the Christmas season (her tree was lit this year from September 2025 through her death), putting together 1,000-piece puzzles, bowling, golfing and watching golf, solving the Wheel of Fortune puzzles before the contestants, and visiting and traveling with her lady friends who precede her in death.

She leaves behind 52 family members across children, in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory always. Elenore is survived by her children, Ray Kavois (Linda), Judy Katz (Mike), Susan Fischer (Allen), Sandy Deane (Mark), Jenny Saleh, Donna Gilbertson (Steve) and son-in-law Larry Shuhert, who was married to her beloved daughter, Carol Shuhert.

Elenore wanted to know her grandchildren as her mother never did. Mom knew all 12 of her grandchildren and 19 of her 20 great grandchildren, ranging in age from 2 weeks to 18 years old, who knew her as GiGi. So many additional nieces and nephews of her children also knew her as Grandma K and Santa K.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort IL 60423 on Monday April 13, 2026, from 11:30AM until time of service at 12:30PM. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
