Donald W. Rohde, 85, was called home by his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ November 12, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. Don was born at home July 29, 1930 in Chesterton, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma (Schreiber) and William Rohde, sister, Ruth (Jack) Blount, sister in law Patricia (James) Williams.
He is survived by his wife Wanda (Williams) of 62 years, daughters Karen (James) Bowman, Schererville, IN, Sheryl (Brad) Carter, Mokena, IL, and son Donald B. Rohde (TerriAnn Holloway, fiancé) of New Lenox, IL. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Chris (Kelli) Bowman, Wheaton, IL, Casey Bowman (Kylee Sweetser, fiancé) of Hayden, CO, Geoffrey Bowman, Chicago, IL, granddaughters Brandyn (Jacob) Fredericks, Highland, IN, and Claire Mae Carter, Mokena, IL.; 4 great- grandchildren; Jackson and Oliver Bowman, and Ava Lyn and Brody Fredericks.
Friends and family will be received for a visitation from 9-11 a.m. Saturday November 21, 2015 with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451.
Interment will take place Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, at 10 a.m.
Don was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School class of 1949. He excelled in basketball and baseball, and had promising aspirations of playing professional baseball. Don decided to enlist in the Navy from 1951-1955 where he was stationed in both Japan and Korea. While in Japan he was the player-manager of a US Air Force baseball team. After his enlistment, Don resided in Hammond, IN and later moved to Highland, IN. He was employed by Cities Service Oil Co., before moving to People's Energy in Elwood, IL. He retired in 1995. Don was a resident of New Lenox, IL since 1978. Don loved all sports, but was an avid CUBS fan since childhood.
Don was a member and former deacon at Ridgewood Baptist Church, Joliet, IL, and anticipated eternity in heaven with his Lord. Memorials can be made in Don's name to Ridgewood Baptist Church or the American Lung Association. www.kurtzmemorialchapel.com/
