David J. Thompson Jr.

David James Thompson, Jr., 89, of Frankfort, formerly of Dolton, passed away June 17, 2023, after a long illness. Dave was born in Chicago to the late David J. and Lunetta C. Thompson, Sr. Beloved husband of Pat (Rummel) Thompson, for 65 years. Loving father of Linda Fitzpatrick-Russell, Theresa Iacovella, David James Thompson, III, Mary Ellen Organ, and Laura Thompson. Beloved grandfather of Shannon (Dave) Lykowski, Timothy Fitzpatrick, Frank (Danae) Iacovella, Dan (Kara) Iacovella, Lauren Iacovella, Sara Organ, Bruce Organ, Jr., Michael Organ, and Zachary Organ. Great-grandfather of eight.

Dave graduated from Bowen High School in Chicago and joined the United States Army. He served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Ford Motor Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights in 1992. He was an accomplished musician and played and led many groups in the South Suburbs, including organizing the Echoes of Hope, a performing group of people with cognitive and physical disabilities.

Dave was a member of the St. Mary Mokena choir, Lifetime member of Genoa and St. Mary Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Stritch Fourth Degree Assembly, the International Order of the Alhambra, Randa Caravan, and the American Legion Post 1977.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 19515 115th Avenue, Mokena, IL 60448 on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Interment, St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Mokena IL.
