DAVID P. GURNITZ

Age 76, of New Lenox, passed away Thursday, July 24th, 2025 at Lightways Hospice House in Joliet. 

David is survived by his loving family, wife, Mary Gurnitz (Eckels), children, David Gurnitz Jr, Hoyett (Kelly) McKenzie, Melissa (fiancé Bill Collins) Johannsen, Yolanda (George) Ballantine, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister in-laws, Connie DeCraene, who has been Mary’s rock throughout David’s illness and Sheryl (Wayne) Holcomb Sr.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Rose Gurnitz (Kalert), son, Thomas McKenzie and brother in-law Theodore DeCraene.

David was a retired Electrician of Local #134 and Auxiliary New Lenox Police Officer.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451 on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be private at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be greatly appreciated.
