Cary D. Socarras

January 3, 1934 — February 15, 2026

Age 92, of Crete, IL. passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 15, 2026, with her family by her side.

Cary was born in Havana, Cuba and later immigrated to the United States. She became a U.S. citizen in 1968 and was very proud of the life she created with her family in the Chicagoland area. She was passionate about family and celebrating life’s special moments.

Known to many simply as Abuela, Cary kept the spirit of her Cuban heritage alive in her home. Her kitchen was the heart of it all, filled with the comforting smells of traditional dishes like slow-cooked ropa vieja, seasoned black beans and rice, sweet plantains, and a perfectly baked flan that was always ready to be served. The food she served was more than just nourishment; it was connection, tradition, and an expression of love. No one ever left her table hungry, and there was always room for one more.

Cary’s strength and resilience shaped both who she was and the life she built. She taught her family the importance of faith, hard work, and generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, the family and friends she loved will carry her love forward in everything they do.
