Betty Jane Kadich

April 1, 1931 — March 9, 2024

Oak Lawn

Betty Jane Kadich (nee Young) 92, was born in Chicago on April 1, 1931 to the late Clifford and Agnes Young and passed away March 9, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Vincent M. Kadich; loving mother of Michael (Melissa) Kadich, Kathleen Kadich, Maureen (Fred) Schwer, Laurie (Gene) Borkowski, Kristina (Jim) Thompson and Cyndy (Mark) Huntrods; dearest grandmother of 24; dear great grandmother of 34 (this is not a misprint and with 3 more blessings on the way).  On September 1, 1951, she married her sweetheart, Vince, at Camp Gordon in Augusta, Georgia officiated by the Army Chaplin.  Her young years were spent growing up in the Chicago neighborhood of Bridgeport and later raising her family in Oak Lawn, IL.  Her love of family was only surpassed by her love for Jesus.  Jesus was woven into every part of her being.  Her hand-written notes in her Bible reflect her dedication to studying the scriptures and living them out.  She was a long-time member of Elim Evangelical Free Church of Oak Lawn, IL and active in the church's many ministries.  The world is a better place due to Betty's compassion for the needy through her volunteer work at Operation Blessing of Southwest Chicagoland and by using her talents to create handmade quilts for orphaned children.  She raised her one son and five daughters while receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree while in her 40's from St. Xavier University in Chicago.  Betty was a talented seamstress sewing clothes for her five daughters and later sewing many bridesmaid's dresses.  She had an artistic side to her, too, painting life-size ballerinas on her daughters' bedroom walls and sketching portraits of movie stars.  Betty was the type of person you could sit down at a table with and enjoy a deep conversation, and often her witty sense of humor would shine through.  Growing up in Bridgeport (as did her husband Vince) was instrumental in them being avid White Sox fans (obviously infecting many of their grandchildren).  She would follow the Sox games over the radio as a young girl.  Little did she know that she would be going to many future baseball/softball games and becoming her children's and grandchildren's biggest fan.  In later life, she was able to travel with her husband and visit many parts of the world including their ancestral homelands -- Ireland, Scotland and Croatia.  Betty's avid prayer life was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Undoubtedly, nothing more would bring joy to her spirit than to greet them in heaven.

A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL on Thursday March 14, 2024 from 3-8pm. Final visitation on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:30 to 11:30am with a Chapel service at Kurtz starting at 11:30am. Interment will be at a future date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Betty's family would like to extend deep gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, kindness and condolences.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manteno Veterans Home, Volunteer Department, One Veterans Drive, Manteno, IL 60950.
