Barbara Meurer, age 92, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
She is survived by her beloved children, Susan (Roger) Fraser and Michael (Ema) Meurer; her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Bolek, Eric Fraser, Emily (Brian) Stewart, Scott (Jessalyn) Meurer, Mark (Veronika) Meurer, Alisa Meurer, Rachel Meurer, and Marce Rios; her beloved great-grandchildren Miles Bolek, Lila Bolek, Quinn Stewart, Noelle Stewart, Ethan Meurer, Hunter Meurer, Zoe Meurer, and Ophelia Meurer; her brother Phillip (Denise) Cromer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 65 years, George Meurer Jr.; her parents, Edwin and Barbara Cromer; and her brothers Donald Cromer and Kenneth Cromer.
Barbara will be remembered for her love of playing games, especially rummy and scrabble. She also enjoyed cooking, especially for guests. She was so good at cooking that a few of her recipes were even published in the Chicago Tribune. She also had a love for birds and owned numerous parakeets and cockatiels. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside while often spending time in her garden. She was a crafter, and especially talented with needlework. She was always a passionate White Sox fan always staying up to date with them. Her and her husband also enjoyed to travel to Amish country especially Shipshewana, IN. Barbara loved her family above all else and spending time with them warmed her heart. She was a gentle soul and will be missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 with a visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, in New Lenox from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 12:30pm. Interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, in Elwood, IL.
