Aida A. Diaz-Dicks

November 14, 1940 — January 21, 2023

Aida A. Diaz-Dicks, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at her home in New Lenox.


Aida is survived by her loving husband Emil Dicks; children, Lissy Diaz, Rosario Diaz, Armando Diaz, Aida (David) Haas; grandchildren, Mya Tunney, Piper Tunney, and Katelyn Haas; her sister Alida Carmenate; her nieces Valia and Alili and treasured friends.


She is preceded in death by her first husband, Antonio Armando Diaz; her mother, Concepcion and her niece Melba.


Aida was born in Cuba in 1940. She and her husband (Antonio) Armando came to the United States in 1965. Despite not speaking English she graduated from Joliet Junior College and subsequently from Governor’s State University and the University of Illinois Chicago with three Masters Degrees in Education, Literature and Administration. She worked as a dedicated bilingual teacher in the Chicago Public Schools for 30 years. She was a lifetime learner, always striving to gain more knowledge and to impart it to others. Teaching was truly a passion for her. After the passing of her first husband in 1986, she met and married her second husband Emil. Their time together was spent enjoying life travelling, dancing and sharing good times with friends and family.


Services for Aida will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 with a memorial visitation held from 3pm-7pm at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd in New Lenox.
