The Obituary

A Life Well Lived!

A wonderful birth occurred on August 1, 1937, in Canton, Mississippi. God blessed her parents, J.B. and Wilda Juanita Sims with their fourth child. She was affectionately named Weedell Myrtle Sims. Weedell was a gem that sparkled in the eyes of her two sisters and one brother (at that time.)

Weedell confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined the family church, Mt. Zion Cobbsville M.B. Church. She attended Sunday School, BTU, sang in the choir and participated in a number of other auxiliaries.

Education was one of the keys to a successful and prosperous life. Weedell completed her elementary and high school education in Canton, Mississippi. After graduation, she followed her siblings to Chicago, Illinois.

She never forgot her spiritual upbringing joining her sister at New Philadelphia Baptist Church on the southside of Chicago. Through a mutual friend she was introduced to the man she would soon marry, Jack McIntosh for nearly 60 years.

Weedell was employed at Montgomery Ward as a Data Control Manager and retired after 44 years of dedicated service. Soon after retirement, Weedell became a substitute teacher for the Frankfort School District. However, the students and staff fell in love with her sweet demeanor and this part-time position became a full-time second career. After nearly 15 years of teaching, she retired…..AGAIN.

Weedell educational achievements include, an Associate in Arts from Olive Harvey College, and a Bachelor of Arts from Chicago State University, in Chicago, Illinois.

Weedell was very active in her community. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, Illinois where she served on several auxiliaries.

Weedell was also a member of the local community choir, Lincolnway Area Chorale which consists of 125 members.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jack McIntosh, Jr., her parents: J.B. and Wilda Juanita Sims, sister, Theresa Slaughter and brother, Rev. J. B. Sims.

She leaves to cherish her legacy and memory her devoted husband, Jack McIntosh, Sr.; her daughter Vivian Velez; two granddaughters Ramina Velez and Jacqueline McIntosh; three great grandchildren, Rashad Cannon, Makayla Sanders and Elijah Sanders; 10 Siblings - Mildred Donald, Rev. Oscar Sims, Dr. Aridell Slaughter, Dr. John A. Sims (Vicky), Shirley Christian (Charles), Lessie Williams, Rev. James Sims (Jeraline); Georgia P. Sims, Dr. Juanita Sims Doty, and Casaundra McCullough, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Monday, May 24th, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again at Zion Lutheran Church, 17100 69th Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477 on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 from 9:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 10:00 AM.
