THOMAS J. SECOR

Age 67, of Joliet, passed away Saturday, November 1st, 2014 at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, after a lengthy illness.

Thomas is survived by his loving family, brother, Mark (Felicia Elias) Secor, nephew, Gregory (Heather) Secor, niece, Michelle (Matt) Herring, great nephew, Trevor Alexander Secor and his church family at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Lockport.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Melba Secor (Gustat).

Thomas Secor was a lifelong professional educator and musician. He retired from Valley View Middle School after 35 years of service as a teacher. Playing his first mass at age 12, Tom was accompanist at many churches during his 55 year music career. He served as Music Director at St. John's Episcopal Church of Lockport for the past 20 years, and was also Coordinator of the "Leadership Program for Church Musicians" for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. He was a charter member of the American Guild of Church Organists' Southwest Suburban Chapter. Tom was very active in Lewis University's music and theater departments and supports two music and theater scholarships for Lewis students. He is a member of the Harold E. White Legacy Society. He also accompanied the Joliet Junior College Chorale for 18 years. Tom was a supporter and member of the Joliet Area Historical Museum, and served on the Museum's finance committee. He was a member of the MENSA Society and was a test proctor. The Rotary Club recognized Tom's deep love, commitment & leadership to his community by presenting him with the Silver Eagle Award.

A memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 312 E. 11th Street, Lockport, IL 60441 on Sunday, November 9th, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Inurnment at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church Columbarium, Lockport, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church Music Fund would be appreciated. The family wishes to express their warmest appreciation to the entire staff of the University of Chicago Medical Center and especially to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit 6D for their impeccable care.
