Thomas C. Gierat

Age 85, of New Lenox, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones. Tom was born in Blue Island, IL to the late Carl and Anne L. (nee Ewaniak) Gierat. Beloved husband of Judith (nee Kazell); loving father of Cody Gierat; dear brother of Richard (Judy) Gierat; fond brother-in-law of George (Linda) Kazell; loved uncle of Brian (Jennifer) Gierat, Kevin Gierat, Kimberly (David) Karis, Michael Kazell, and Daniel (Katy) Kazell; also survived by his two buddies, his cats, Dory, and Josie “JoJo”. Tom was a member of St Benedict Catholic Church, Blue Island, IL where he served proudly as an altar boy. He was a graduate of Mendel Catholic High School, Chicago, IL and received his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University, Peoria, IL and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha (aka “Lambda Chi”). Post college Tom delivered ice and was a member of Ice Men’s Union Local 702. Tom worked for many years with International Harvester and Litton Gear, fully retiring in 1999. For years he was involved with politics and served as an election judge. Tom enjoyed his monthly poker games with his poker buddies and was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and the Bulls. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be planned later in the summer.
