Born June 28, 1948 went home to be with Jesus on July 4, 2017. He grew up in Westchester, IL. Retired Captain of the LaGrange Fire Department. Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Joiner) for 40 years. Loving stepfather to Deb, Ray, Sally, and Sue, whom he called his own. Grandfather to Adam (Barb), Amy (Tracy), Andrew (Aimee), Joe (Mandy), Tina (Tyler), Lauren, Sean, Zoey, and Kelsey. Great Gramps to many! Wonderful brother to Pat (Rick), Pete (Mary), Tom (Phyllis), and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
His other interests were building late model race cars to race at Santa Fe Raceway. He was a licensed pilot and owned several different small airplanes. Bob also enjoyed his role as a mechanic on the Hawk Sea Fury Racing Team at the Reno Air Races.
Bob credited his dad with teaching him everything he knew. His dad built 1" scale locomotive steam engine trains in his basement workshop. Because of what he learned from his dad, Bob could fix anything.
Throughout his adult life Bob was called upon for his advice and expertise by friends and family, and would never refuse a stranger who needed help.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm with a Funeral Service at 6:00pm. Interment will be private.
