Robert G. "Bob" Hornung

Robert G. “Bob” Hornung, age 77, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Amita Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (nee Petranek) Hornung; son Robert (April) Hornung Jr.; step-children, Jerry (Diana) Bauer, Dawn (Darin) Johnson, Debbie Bauer, and Tracy Bauer Caliendo; grandchildren, Taylor Hornung, Hayley Hornung, Samantha Hornung, Sabrina Hornung, Griffin Hornung, Cody Bauer, Justin (Nicole) Johnson, Jordon Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Cassie Bauer, Heather (Nick) Pay, Kirsten Bauer, Grace Caliendo, and Dominic Caliendo; sister Susan Semens; nephews Zachary (Rhiannon) Semens and Michael (Alecia) Bambrick; and his fur-baby Butkus.

He is preceded in death by his father William Goltz, mother Frieda Hornung, and his adopted father Charles Hornung.

Bob will be remembered for his love of sitting peacefully on a dock somewhere with his line in the water. He took much enjoyment in fishing and spending time outdoors. When he could, he also loved riding horses and taking them on trails. He was a diehard White Sox and Chicago Bears fan, and was also an incredibly good cook, especially when it came to comfort foods. He also had a very green thumb and he had transformed his backyard into a large garden. He would then hand out his freshly grown veggies to his neighbors. Bob was also a very good card player no matter the game. He was a fun-loving character and he will be missed by all that knew him.

A memorial visitation for Robert will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. in New Lenox from 1pm until the time of service at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Associations in Bob’s name would be appreciated.
