Robert E. Schultz

November 17, 1946 — October 3, 2022

Robert Edward Schultz

Born on November 17, 1946 at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Illinois. Son of the late George and Mildred Kent-Schultz of Lockport.

Passed on October 3, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois.

Bob was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Joliet. He then became a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Frankfort.

Bob joined the US Air Force right after high school graduation. He continued on to the Navy of which he retired after 25 years. He traveled the world and met many life long friends.

Married Dianne Ebert on September 7, 1974, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Frankfort, Illinois.

They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.

When he married Dianne he became a member of an even bigger family. The son-in-law of Edmund and Velma Ebert of Frankfort, they loved “Schultz” as much as he loved them. He was welcomed with open arms to the many cousins, aunts and uncles. Bob became an instant cousin, while already having many in the Governale Family of the Joliet area and the Schultz Family from Bay City, Michigan.

Bob and Dianne raised 2 sons together, Craig Robert and Todd Edmund and then shared their love to their daughter-in-law Michelle Lynch.

He was active in the lives of his family. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader, 4-H helpers, always helping his in-laws. His most favorite was chaperoning with the Lincoln-Way Marching Knights. There are many wonderful memories of their trips and Band Camp weeks.

The joys of his life were his two grandsons, Caleb Edmund, 9, and Carter Salvatore, 7. Reading books and eating ice cream together were their favorite pastimes. He was the greatest Papa to share treats with!

The family loved to vacation together making wonderful memories. In 2019 they enjoyed a cruise together with ice cream every night!

Bob retired from St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He worked in the Bio Med Department for 30 years.

In retired life, Bob became a skilled wood worker. He made beautiful pieces that he shared with family and friends. During the holidays “Turtle Bob” could be found making caramel for his famous turtles. This has been a tradition shared with friends, family and most recently, his grandchildren for countless years.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses who were so wonderful and caring over the years. Bob had heart problems since the mid 1990’s. With all the appointments and procedures he endured, he always remained positive.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses from Silver Cross ICU. They are beautiful loving people. The family is grateful for the care and support they showed them.

Bob’s family will celebrate his life on October 7 from 3pm-8pm at Kurtz Funeral home, 65 Old Frankfort Way in Frankfort, Illinois.

A service will be held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 12 West Sauk Trail, Frankfort on Saturday, October 8 at 11am. Lunch will follow at the church.
